Road frontage, parking and turning area,
with fencing and gates - Upton, Hampshire
The Brief: To create a simple road frontage, driveway
and turning area with boundary fencing and gates, in keeping with
a period cottage.
The existing driveway was constructed of rough hardcore
and hoggin which was in poor condition and did nothng to enhance
the appearance of the pretty flint cottage. The base was excavated
and compacted, re-using much of the original coating, and a traditional
'Romsey Red' aggregate was applied as the new surface, which enhanced
the brickwork of the cottage and brightened the area. A low, reclaimed
brick, retaining wall enclosed a simple patch of lawn to the kerbside
and the boundary fencing was tanalised wood post and rail with
a pair of five bar gates to the entrance. This project also included
installation of a drain to take water run-off from the main road,
which ran on to land adjoining the property - see groundworks
section for information on drainage and irrigation services.
